Congratulations to Dr. Vladimir Davydov

January 18, 2012

Congratulations to BAP PhD Ethnoarchaeology student Vladimir Davydov on passing his doctoral viva with no corrections!

Vladimir's supervisor was Dr. David Anderson. The committee was made up of Dr. Peter Jordan (Aberdeen) and Dr. Patty Gray (NUI Maynooth).

Dr. Davydov's thesis is entitled "People on the Move: Development Projects and Use of Landscape by Northern Baikal Reindeer Herders, Hunters and Fishers". Based on over a year of fieldwork in a small community North of Lake Baikal, Dr. Davydov demonstrated the subtle way that local people adapted to global forces that many assume completely disrupt and sweep away minorities. The thesis is a strong statement of the resilience of human and landscape agency.

Dr. Davydov was recently appointed as a senior researcher in the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. He is responsible for researching and curating the Evenki collections at the museum.

Congratulations to Dr. Davydov for doing a great job, and all the best in your future endeavours!
